THE LADY OF SHANGHAI

One of Orson Welles' best films was "The Lady of Shaghai". In the film Welles plays Michael O'Hara, a cynical seaman taking a rich couple on a bizarre cruise. The rich couple, played by Everett Sloane and Rita Hayworth, are Arthur and Elsa Bannister.

Below are some classic lines from the film.

Arthur Bannister, Criminal Lawyer: So money doesn't interest you, are you independently wealthy?

Michael O'Hara: I'm independent.

Arthur Bannister, Criminal Lawyer: Of money?

And this pithy observation.

Michael O'Hara: Personally I don't like a girlfriend to have a husband, if she'll fool a husband she'll fool me.

IT MUST HAVE BEEN A BAD TIME TO BE IN LOVE IN THE DESERT OF THE REAL!
