CAN PERCEPTIONS FORETELL REALITY? WILL RECESSION FOLLOW?

A recent CNN Poll finds that 46% of Americans believe the US economy is in recession. 51% do not believe that the US economy is in recession.

For the record, the US economy is not in recession, although growth has been sporadic and generally below the long-term average of 3.4% for the last few years. And there are economic sectors of great concern. But unemployment is still relatively low. And falling interest rates should help family budgets and generate some mortgage refinancing.

In September, according to an article on CNN, the leading Economic Indicators were up .3%, although the September estimates were for .4%. August’s number showed a decline of .8%.

WHERE FROM HERE?

Most economists do not see an imminent recession, although a recession in 2008 cannot be discounted. But with nearly half of Americans sensing a current recession, consumer activity may drag down performance.

GRAY, BUT NOT BLACK, IN THE DESERT OF THE REAL!
